Some of Isabella McLeure's children
Isabella McLeure 1827 - 1910
Isabella McLeure - early years in Southend
Isabella was born at Feorlin on 28 Jul 1827 and it is reasonable to assume her childhood was spent there with her uncle Malcolm McLaran's family. Her mother Jean McLeoran spent many years at Carskey Shore Cottage but the timing of the move is not determinable. She probably lived there from around 1830 to her death in 1869.
Isabella's birth, though illegitimate, was recorded by the Kirk who described her as "the natural daughter of Samuel McLeure and Jean McLeorin Carskey."

Isabella's second marriage to Thomas Corlett
Thomas Corlett was member of the extensive Corlett family from the Isle of Man. It is said that everyone with the Corlett surname has an Isle of Man ancestor on their family tree. Thomas and Isabella married on the Isle of Man and lived in Whitehaven in Cumberland's western region where they raised a family. It was there that her sister Ann Mackay met miner John Jones, the father of her first daughter, Margaret.
Isabella and Thomas (along with their children) lived around Whitehaven for the rest of their days.
It is hoped that future research will establish the fate of this branch of the McLeoran family.
Isabella lived to a grand old age (83) as did her mother (72) and her sister Ann (96).
Donald McLaran, who would have known his cousin Isabella very well from his childhood days in Southend, honoured her in 1893 when he named his 4th daughter Margaret Isabella Wilson McLaran.
