Resting Places of The Ancestors and Family Members

Do you may have an interest in cemeteries and headstones? Here is a guide to the location of graves of some of the players in the Queensland story of the McLarans of Dalby.

This selected list is far from comprehensive. It includes the original immigrants, some of their direct descendants,  partners, the odd rogue, and some far-flung resting places.

There is a concentration of graves of McLaran, Eversden, McLaren and Milford descendants in Dalby. Likewise there are numerous graves of McLaren, Sullivan and Ahrens descendants in Roma. Graves of McLaren descendants are scattered widely between Toowoomba and Roma, often in small cemeteries such as Warra or the nearby Macalister Cemetery where access is via landowner permission only.

Recommended cemetery visits for keen students of McLaran / Eversden family history:
  • Southport Cemetery which has well maintained graves; Eversden and Brown graves are situated on the ridge;
  • Dalby Monumental Cemetery - essential to understanding the Scottish community in Dalby in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

For followers (and let's hope there are some) of the story of William Joseph Brown, the Brown and Burnett family graves at Bulimba Cemetery are very worthy of a visit.
